Bonding and Fillings

Dental bonding is a popular method used to enhance the esthetics of your smile. Dental bonding can be used to correct chips, close gaps, cover stains, enlarge small teeth, and to straighten the appearance of crooked teeth. Almost anyone is a candidate for dental bonding, including children. If you are interested in having a whiter smile, Dr. Mike Lattner may recommend teeth whitening before beginning dental bonding treatment.

Dental bonding is a procedure that can be completed in one easy, convenient visit. Dental bonding is a material made of a high-quality plastic known as composite resin. First, a shade will be selected to match your tooth enamel. Our doctor will apply and sculpt the resin to look natural with your smile.

Recent advances in the composition of resins have increased the strength, durability, and longevity of these restorations. Although dental bonding is not as resilient and stain-proof as porcelain veneers, it is a more cost effective method.

Non-metal Fillings

You’ve heard that eating too many sweets or drinking beverages with high sugar content will cause cavities. The science behind this is that sugar, and in fact all starches, temporarily softens tooth enamel so that bacteria can infiltrate your tooth and cause decay. Does this mean you need to stop eating all sweets? No. Eating sugary and starchy foods in moderation combined with practicing excellent daily oral hygiene, using fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash, will deter cavities. Also, attending six-month check-ups and cleanings is important because cavities often do not have any symptoms until they are very large.

When a tooth has decay, Dr. Lattner can remove the infection and then seal the tooth with a filling. Fillings take only one dental visit to place. With the recent advancements in dental filling materials, non-metal fillings (composite resins) now offer many advantages over the old, unsightly metal amalgam fillings:

  • Composite resin fillings are dyed to match the color of your tooth, so they look completely natural.
  • Composite resin fillings preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible.
  • With proper dental care, composite resin fillings can last for many years.
